Summer 2008

Busy Classmates!

George Melnyk celebrated his 40th birthday in true Irish fashion (fittingly, George was born on St. Patrick's Day) at a surprise party hosted by Andre Hutchinson '86. George's guests included classmates John Crowe, Todd Gerber ’89, Sean Pieri ’88, George Melnyk, Sr. ’66, Marianne (Melnyk) Gerber ’92, Perry Hohman '84, Todd Parker '89, and Kevin Zywna '89. Reverend "Monk" Malloy, President Emeritus, although unable to attend, sent George a warm, personal note of congratulations. George and his wife, Kim, reside in Virginia Beach VA with their children Madeline, Andrew and Grant. George is vice president of Premier Millwork & Lumber Company, a prominent mid-Atlantic commercial architectural millwork fabricator. Additionally, George recently served as president of Catholic Charities, and is actively involved in the ND Club of Southeastern Virginia, which was designated "Club of the Year" at last year's NDAA Alumni Senate. Tom King checked in from Glenview IL. Tom is still working in investment banking covering financial sponsors for CIT. Alissa and Tom welcomed their third son, Gavin Patrick, on February 5th. Gavin rounds out the King linebacker corps anchored by older brothers Aidan (4) and Dylan (3). Aidan and Dylan attend the same school as the children of Tom Zidar and John Hamill. John adds that he and his wife, Rammina are in Northfield IL with Jack, Julia, and Sophie. John is a partner at Jenner & Block in Chicago and a member of the firm's management committee. Young Jack had this to say during a visit to campus last year: "Dad, wow, this is a really nice place. Does every college have a Grotto?" Mary (Rielly) '90 / JD’93 and Rob Hogan are living in Western Springs IL with sons Colin (10), Patrick (8), and Luke and Kevin (5 yr old twins). Mary attempts to make sense of the chaos at home and is involved with the boys’ school, St. John of the Cross. Rob is a principal at Chicago-based private equity firm Code, Hennessy & Simmons. Annette Quill and her husband Scott announced the birth of their third daughter on March 3rd. Her name is Josephine (after her grandfather, Joseph Quill ‘48, a Double Domer himself). Josephine’s sisters are already trying to teach her how to say "Go Irish." Annette practices environmental law at the Colorado Attorney General's Office. Annette and Scott live in Golden CO and spend a lot of time with Pete Mourani and his wife, Kim. Pete is a critical care doctor at Children’s Hospital in Denver. Tony Talarico married Phuong Vu in January. Tony’s old Grace Hall roommates Paul Brauweiler, Paul DeMieri and Christopher Horton were there for the celebration. Tony works for IBM in San Francisco as a management consultant, while Phuong is a supply chain specialist at Macy's. Sadly, John Callahan lost his mother, Rosemary, in December after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Mrs. Callahan always welcomed her children's friends to her home in Park Ridge IL. Over the years, she hosted many ND students over the holidays who could not make it home or those en route to the football games via Chicago. Our prayers are with John. Please visit Irish Online (www.alumni.nd.edu) to ensure you have a current email address listed. We’ll be using email as our primary communication method to the class, especially as our 20th Reunion approaches. -- Chris Paul, McKinney TX 75070; 972-529-1183; chrispaul@alcatel-lucent.com, http://1990.undclass.org
