Winter 2007

Looking for a few good Domers

Jay Huck wrote in to catch me up with his adventures. Jay made the jump from Navy to Air Force and is now a Lt Col in the AF Reserves while also flying for Delta Airlines. Kirsten and Jay call Cincinnati home and are the proud parents of 5 daughters (4 adopted)!  We’ll need to start a collection for Jay before the weddings start!  Alexandra and Greg Gombert, CDR, USN are headed to San Diego in the spring after Greg finishes a 2-year Pentagon tour. After completing his Prospective Commanding Officer (PCO) training pipeline, Greg will serve as USS Gridley's (DDG 101) second Commanding Officer. Greg mentioned that if anyone is interested in touring the ship, the hospitality carpet is always out!  Christine (Collins) and Kevin Jackson, LCDR, USN moved to Crofton MD where Kevin will be the Optometry Department Head at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis.  Kevin recently finished a MPH from Columbia Mailman School of Public Health. Christine uses her Stern MBA (NYU) to manage the busy home front keeping Brendan (9), Megan (7), Kieran (4), and Sean (2) in line. David Hemler was promoted to the newly created position of president of Best Buy for Business. David joined Best Buy in 2006 after several years at Microsoft and Andersen Consulting. The Illinois Campaign for Political Reform (ICPR) named Dan Hynes as a recipient of the 2007 Sen. Paul Simon Public Service Awards. Dan is in his third term as Illinois State Comptroller. In 2007, Dan’s Comptroller office was honored with the Abraham Lincoln Ethics Award from the Illinois Executive Ethics Commission. The award is given to Illinois state employees for exemplary adherence to the principles of integrity, fairness and public service. Matt Breslin announced that wife Meg gave birth to a baby girl, Maeve Cathleen, on September 18th (yes, a girl!). Maeve has three older brothers: Jack (10), Danny (8), and Aidan (5) who are crazy about her and undoubtedly will be both her protectors and tormentors in the years to come. On the subject of Notre Dame annual giving, our class president, Patrick Olmstead, has provided these great suggestions to help our own class. When you send in your annual donation via check, please consider putting "Notre Dame Class of 1990" on the "pay to the order of" line. Or, if you're providing your donation online or over the phone, please add a note that the money should be earmarked for the "Notre Dame Class of 1990." Your donation will still count for ticket lottery purposes, Sorin Society, etc., and by earmarking the funds for the "Notre Dame Class of 1990," you will help fund your class treasury. You should have received an email from Patrick back in October with more detail on how your gifts to the University can also benefit our class fundraising efforts (think 20th reunion!). If you didn’t receive the email, please update your contact information at http://alumni.nd.edu. Along those lines, we need volunteers to serve on the 2010 class reunion committee. If you are interested in helping make our 20th a great success, please contact Patrick. In addition, if anyone would like to volunteer to help the class longer-term, we need a Class Treasurer and a Class Vice-President. These commitments require only about 1 hour a month of your time, but can be very rewarding. Patrick can be contacted at: polmstead@hooverhull.com or 317-822-4400, ext 106.
